Also known as Primary Power, Primary Metering is the measurement of electric usage for billing purposes, measured at distribution voltage. In other words, the end user purchases a transformer, the cable, and a switch and owns the power all the way from the pole rather than from the transformer.
By making an upfront investment in cable and equipment, the end user can purchase power from the utility at a deeply discounted price. Depending on the location, that can mean savings upward of 40%! There are many factors to consider when determining whether the investment is worth it, though the biggest factor is electrical usage.
